This session will enhance and help spark the partnerships and shared platforms that are essential for effective participation and local SDG implementation as well as provide an opportunity for the exchange of strategies from the Latin American context with those from other regions of the world to deepen global collaboration for implementing the NUA and SDGs.
The speakers will present a framework for public policy monitoring and multi-directional communication with the public, supported by platforms, indicators and monitoring mechanisms to adapt the Action Framework for Implementation of the New Urban Agenda (AFINUA) and the Regional Action Plan for the implementation of the NUA to local city needs.
This networking event responds to the need for accountability for the achievement of the SDGs, specifically SDG 11, and the NUA. Innovation in communication, participation, and accountability are vital for local level implementation and monitoring of both the SDGs and the NUA. The session examples will include innovative tools and platforms for communication, participation and city-level data and indicators, vital for evidence-based policymaking towards sustainable urbanization.
Building local capacities is an essential dimension for successfully implementing the SDGs. Event participants will focus how different city stakeholders can improve accountability and will aim to attract a wide representation of city stakeholders to participate, with a special emphasis on empowering and including women and youth. The session will create a space of dialogue to foster city-to-city cooperation and knowledge sharing with an emphasis on the role of South-South exchange and building opportunities for future collaboration and innovation.
