Summary

Urban Recovery from Crisis and Rehabilitation Strategies in the context of National Urban Policies

The Governing Council of the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-HABITAT) adopted in its 26 GC the Resolution of Iraq to establish an Urban Crisis Response Fund that complies with the commitments contained in the New Urban Agenda to give special attention to communities emerging from the conflict, so as not to lag behind, by strengthening the coordinating role To National, Subnational and Local Governments as appropriate and their cooperation with other public entities and non-governmental organizations in providing social and basic services to all, and to find durable solutions that preserve dignity while ensuring that aid flows simultaneously to the affected persons and host communities to avoid a relapse into development and to create safe, inclusive and sustainable human settlements.

Urban strategies, local development and urban policies take into consideration the gender and nature of Iraqi society as a young society. However, the challenges facing the executive plans, especially the war on terrorism, have affected the diversity of society in Iraq. The number of displaced persons in Iraq exceeded 3.2 million, together with the crime of genocide Against the Yezidis, and to destroy the ethnic religious group of 400,000 people through murder, sexual slavery and other crimes. There are at least 300 Yezidi women of different ages who are detained by the ISIS, including children under the age of 13, some of them were pregnant and had children during their time in the ISIS.

This event aims at:

1. Define the role that Iraq has played in eradicating ' ISIS 'and liberation of its land from terrorism, which represents a transient threat to all international borders.

2. Demonstrate challenges, potentials, opportunities, threats, strengths and weaknesses that face communities emerging from conflict to achieve sustainable development and exchange experiences and expertise with countries of similar experiences.

3. Activate the mechanism to benefit from the Urban Crisis Response Fund.

Iraq, through this event, seeks the formation of a follow-up unit whose tasks are to document and compile observations and recommendations on effectiveness, analyze and present them in reports that show the relevance of the outcomes and results of the effectiveness and their relationship to the implementation of the New Urban Agenda.
