Summary

This panel will showcase an international 'Wise Practices' website which will open for submissions and go live at WUF 9. By sharing WISE Practices from all over the world, it will help make cities more Women Friendly and thus better for all. The concept was first formulated and introduced at Habitat III.

Each wise practice will relate to a specific category (Governance/Leadership, Safety, Urban Spaces, Housing/Land Rights, Education, Health, Economic Security, Transportation, Environment/Resilience, Child/Elder Care, Indigenous Peoples, Arts/Media/Culture, Refugees and Immigrants, Infrastructure and Services, Diversity and Inclusion). Each wise practice will also relate to a specific goal relevant to the category, that is linked to the New Urban Agenda, SDGs, CEDAW, and other international agreements.

The goal is for the website to become a living library of gendered intersectional Wise Practices. It will include information on measurement of outcomes and ongoing monitoring, useful tools and resources, as well as lessons learned. Promoting wide multi sector and grassroots international participation will allow for networking and partnership development. It can also be used as an evaluation tool for cities. Where possible, disaggregated data will be featured.

During this event, an overview of the website and project will be given, followed by examples of wise practices described by panelists from Korea, Malaysia, Spain and Canada. This will be followed by a discussion period and a call for submissions and sponsors for the platform. The website will be accessible via www.womentransformingcities.org on the day of the side event.
