Panellists from throughout the Commonwealth will share experiences to assist in the planning and development of sustainable, inclusive, prosperous communities for all. The first panellist will provide insight into the Planning for Rapid Urbanisation 2030 initiative by the Prince's Foundation for Building Community which seeks to develop innovative, practical online tools and educational resources to support all those involved in designing towns and cities. The project aims to provide templates that will create, for instance, a draft set of urban framework plans. The project aims to support local governments across the Commonwealth to deliver the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 and help meet the COP21 targets. Panellists from NZPI will share experiences in rapid urbanisation in the South Pacific including construction projects incorporating community engagement, potential home purchase and examples of the how urbanisation in challenging natural hazard environments is being addressed. The Chinese University of Hong Kong will then share experiences with community empowerment and placemaking focusing on youth engagement. Finally, the Malaysia Institute of Planners (MIP) will share the National Urbanization Policy 2 of Malaysia which lists all actions required for sustainable urban development at all levels of cities and towns, and how these can meet up with the objectives of the NUA and the SDG.
