Housing affordability is a global concern plaguing key cities around the world. In 2014, it is estimated that 330 million urban households globally live in substandard housing or are financially stretched by housing costs. In Malaysia, urbanisation and population growth have contributed to a shortage of affordable housing supply. In an effort to promote sustainable urbanisation, a key agenda for many cities worldwide is ensuring that housing is affordable to the masses.
This panel discussion will feature international experts on the topic of affordable housing, who would share insights on how countries have successfully narrowed the affordable housing gaps. This would include discussions on the role of central housing authority in providing affordable housing, encouraging rental market development as an alternative to home ownership, as well as leveraging on technology and an integrated housing database for more effective policy-making
