Countries with economies in transition lack institutional capacity and expertise for effective implementation of 2030 Agenda and the New Urban Agenda. The networking event will present findings of the joint UNECE/UN-Habitat UNDA 9th tranche project “Strengthening national capacities for sustainable housing and urban development in countries with economies in transition”, which was implemented in four countries – Armenia, Republic of Moldova, Serbia and Tajikistan. The side event will discuss experiences and lessons learned in mapping gaps in capacities for the policy implementation at national level and will share developed best practices in building those capacities in different political and economic contexts. The networking event will be organised in two interactive panels. In the first panel, high-level representatives of the governments of the countries in which the project was implemented (Armenia, Republic of Moldova, Serbia and Tajikistan) will discuss key policy priorities in their countries and how the project supported building capacities for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the New Urban Agenda. They will formulate key outcomes of the project in their countries, the challenges and lessons learned. The second panel will include interventions by international experts in capacity building, including those who were involved in the project, who will highlight key topics important for effective and sustainable in long-term building capacities.
