Implementing the New Urban Agenda in Botswana: Promoting Inclusive Housing Solutions
Side eventsRoom 408
- Republic of Botswana
The event will highlight the Botswana New Urban Agenda Implementation Framework, and showcase the housing delivery programmes as part of efforts to achieve the New Urban Agenda in Botswana. It will demonstrate the inclusivity and participatory nature of the implementation framework process which is anticipated to inspire other countries who have not yet domesticated the New Urban Agenda to follow suit. This will ensure effective planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of this agenda.
The side event will share innovative housing delivery programmes which include the low income housing programme, social housing, public housing, and private sector housing delivery initiatives. The inclusivity, and the principle of leaving no one behind will be demonstrated. Presentations will highlight programmes catering for different social and income groups, and indicate how different stakeholders are involved. The event will also highlight how the lives of the urban poor are improved through the Participatory Slum Upgrading Programme.
The side event will therefore be relevant to the ideals of the New Urban Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals, particularly goal 11 'make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable'. It is also relevant to other related goals, for example SDG1 and 6.
