Summary

Iskandar Malaysia is one of the four key economic regions in Peninsular Malaysia located in southern development corridor in Johor. This economic region formed in 2006 brings in more focused economic and infrastructure investments to an already established urban conurbation located at the southern-most tip of Peninsular Malaysia. The region now enters its second phase of growth, where Iskandar Malaysia has progressed rapidly and managed to draw in many investments from both domestic and international investors, and has successfully completed all major enabling infrastructure and some of the catalytic projects earlier planned.

Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) is a Federal statutory body established under the Iskandar Regional Development Authority Act 2007. The primary objective of IRDA is to realise the vision of developing Iskandar Malaysia into a strong and sustainable metropolis of international standing by the year of 2025.

Iskandar Malaysia is guided by the Comprehensive Development Plan II (CDP ii), 2014-2025 that will ensure Iskandar Malaysia continuously to be developed as a holistic ecosystem. Wealth generation; resource optimisation and low carbon; and wealth sharing and inclusiveness are the three main elements in developing the region. Wealth generation ensures a continuous, stable and resilient income generation through regional economic growth resulting from high skilled employment, higher productivity and value creation. Yet, as this takes place, we must ensure that natural and man-made resources are protected through optimal use and smart growth. Alongside that, and if not most importantly, the people must be given the opportunity to participate in the wealth generation, indirectly contributing to regional and individual wealth.

We believe that our initiative is in-line with the 5 key elements of the Implementing the New Urban Agenda which are National Urban Policies, Urban Legislation and Governance, Urban Planning and Design, Urban Economy and Local Implementation.
